JUSTIN'S DUCKLINGS

Today Justin brought in two duck eggs that were about to hatch. Justin's Mum brought in an incubator to keep the eggs warm as it was decided not have their Mother Duck in the classroom to do that important job.

It didn't take long before the little ducklings started to chip away at their eggshell with their little egg tooth on their beak. It was very tiring work and the ducklings kept stopping for a rest and a sleep.

We kept checking on the ducklings' progress all day. Soon they were both out. One was yellow and the other was brown. Their feathers were wet at first, but they soon dried off and became nice and fluffy. They were very tired though and spent a lot of time sleeping after they came out of their eggs.

Thank you so much to Justin and his wonderful Mum for organising this wonderful experience for us all to have.

THE TASTE OF FRUIT

Wednesdays are a firm favourite in Prep K as it is Fruit Day. We are really enjoying trying the new tastes of the many different fruit on offer each week.

We would like to thank all those wonderful Mums who come in each week to help and cut up the fruit for all the different grades.

POETS IN THE MAKING!

What amazing poets we are! These are the first of hopefully many poems that we will write. We do hope that you enjoy listening to them as much as we enjoyed writing and reading them.

OUR GREAT POEMS CALLED 'SLOWLY'

We created, wrote, read and videoed our poems all about things that move slowly. Listens to the words we chose to make those pictures in your head.

Mrs Krake loved the way we included the slow mini-beasts that we are learning about now and the Australian animals we learned about last term in our poems. We have also thought about so many other things that move slowly. Listen to what we have to say.

OUR VERY FIRST POEMS

What amazing little folk we are in Prep K. We wrote our first poems last week. Listen carefully to our words which were supposed to create great pictures inside your head of the different things that move "Slowly".

Mrs Krake was so impressed with the number of fantastic ideas and great words that her cherubs used.

JAPANESE WITH SATO SENSEI

We have learned so much in Japanese with our fantastic teacher Kurumi Sato. We have learned how to count to 10, words for different body parts, words about the weather, colours, farm animals, greetings and more. We often use songs to help us to learn new words and phrases.

Thank you Sato Sensei you have taught us so much in Prep K.

TRIVIA QUIZ NIGHT

The teachers, parents and friends had a great time at the Trivia Night in our new school hall on Friday night. Mrs Sibley and Mr Campbell took turns to marked the answer sheets and read out the questions, while Mr Woodburne and Mr Kerlin's team won the silliest answer compertition.

It was a really hot night, but the air conditioning was doing such an amazing job we almost had to get the jumpers out!

Brady’s Dad’s team battled Mrs Krake’s team for the win on the night. Brady’s Dad won! Congratulations, we hope that you will all enjoy your prize.

OUR BIG BOOK

First thing each day we start the day by reading the Big Book together.

This is where we think about what good readers do, and we learn how we can work out new and tricky words in our reading.

Firstly we know that all good readers listen to themselves as they read, or they are just wasting their time.

We also know to look at the picture, look at how the word starts and at all times think what will make sense, as ways of starting to help us to read those tricky words.

We are becoming such skillful readers. Have a quick look at our story of the Gingerbread Man with a difference.

THE NED KELLY RE-ENACTMENT AT GLENROWAN.

Another hot weekend saw more excitement with the Ned Kelly re-enactment at Glenrowan. Ned was a bushranger back in the 1880’s. Some see him as a Robin Hood character, others as a villain, either way it was a fun day for all who were there.

Mrs Krake spotted Elijah with his Dad and brother Ben on the overpass having a perfect view of it all.

Hayley from 1R was also there to enjoy the day.

OUR OLYMPIC GYMNISTS IN THE MAKING!

Terry has taught us so much about keeping our balance, building strength and doing some clever bounces and rolls in gymnastics. He keeps us very busy in our session with him, having us bobbing, rolling and jumping along with big smiles on our face all the way. Mrs Krake gets a real big laugh every time we do the ‘Bear Walk’ across the mat.

THE MELBOURNE CUP FUN DAY

We had a ball on the day before the Melbourne Cup. The whole school had a fun day. We welcomed back Mr Morphett for the day. Just what we needed too, another pair of hand to help fold and stick! Thanks Mr Morphett

Firstly we had our Grade 5 friends from 5E come in to help us to make our hobbyhorses. Lots of colouring, cutting and sticking required here. The results were great!

The girls created their fillies........

while the boys go into the creation of their colts.

We ran heats to choose our fastest filly and our fastest colt. It was such an amazingly hot day that it was great to be able to do this in the cool of our new school hall.

After little play we turned our clever fingers to the creation of our hats for the “FASHIONS OF THE FIELD” highlight later in the day. Our little creation consisted of beautiful spring flowers in the centre of the field with the horses galloping around the brim of our school hats.

The heat of the day was more like summer instead of the cooler weather that we had hoped for in the spring carnival. Our hat could not take a wild lunch time either so we had a cool play inside instead. A great idea!

After lunch we had the "FASHIONS OF THE FIELD' in the school hall. We got to see what all the grades were busy making, and they got to see us. What fun.

Then we watched the teachers. They were very funny and we had such a laugh watching them show us their amazing fashions!

Mr Woodburne won the Men's section and Ms C. won the ladies. They said that their prize was a week long modelling course in Paris, but we are not sure that that is true!

Mrs Krake was going for the "QUEEN OF THE GARDEN' look.

The day ended with the running of the WANGARATTA WEST CUP. We could not believe our eyes when we saw our Maddison just fly along at an amazing speed to the finishing post! Well done Maddison you made us all so proud.

WANGARATTA FESIVAL OF BLUES AND JAZZ.

LOOK AT WHO WERE SPOTTED AT THE WANGARATTA JAZZ FESTIVAL.

What a weekend! Many Prep K children went with their families, to the Wangaratta Festival of Blues and Jazz. Summer seems to have arrived with a vengeance and we were all hot and looking for cool spots in the shade.

Mrs Krake bought lots of new jewels from the many great stalls, and frequent stopping in to buy drinks and ice-cream was a decided must!

The music, as ever, was great! What talented people we have out there.

Elijah looked very cool in his jazz styled hat!
